Cloudflare domain connection
Add your domain to Cloudflare so it can manage DNS records, SSL, and traffic routing.
After creating your Cloudflare account, you need to tell Cloudflare which domain it should manage. This process takes about 5 minutes and connects your domain's DNS to Cloudflare's network.
What you'll need
- A Cloudflare account (see the "Cloudflare account setup" guide if you don't have one yet)
- Your domain name (e.g.
yourdomain.com)
Step 1: Add your site
- Log in to the Cloudflare Dashboard.
- Click the Add a site button on the home page.
- Enter your root domain name — for example,
yourdomain.com.- Do not include
https://,http://, orwww. - Use the root domain only, not a subdomain like
blog.yourdomain.com.
- Do not include
- Click Add site to continue.
Step 2: Select a plan
- Cloudflare will ask you to choose a plan.
- Select the Free plan — it includes DNS management, SSL, and Workers support, which is everything you need.
- Click Continue.
Step 3: Review your DNS records
Cloudflare automatically scans your current DNS provider and imports existing records. This ensures your website and email keep working after the switch.
- Review the list of imported records carefully:
- A / AAAA records — these point your domain to your server's IP address.
- CNAME records — aliases for subdomains (e.g.
www). - MX records — required for email delivery. Make sure these are present if you use email with this domain.
- If any records are missing, you can add them manually now or later from the DNS settings page.
- Click Continue when you're satisfied.
Step 4: Copy your new nameservers
At the end of the setup flow, Cloudflare will display two nameserver addresses — they look something like:
ada.ns.cloudflare.comhank.ns.cloudflare.com
Write these down or keep this page open. You'll need to enter them at your domain registrar in the next step ("Change nameservers to Cloudflare").
Important notes
- Your domain won't be active on Cloudflare until you complete the nameserver change at your registrar. Until then, the domain will show as "Pending" in the Cloudflare dashboard.
- The Free plan has no time limit — you won't be charged or auto-upgraded.
- If you accidentally close the page, you can always find your assigned nameservers by going to your domain > DNS > Cloudflare nameservers in the dashboard.
